Gardening Galore

May 18, 2012

This is the beginning of the vegetable experiment.... well, actually lettuce was the first step and that turned out quite well, considering that I thought it impossible to grow any edible plant. Until the Pecan tree leafs out there is enough sun for lettuce to grow. I tried spinach but it didn't do well. Perhaps the soil wasn't right or I was too late getting it in but it just never grew much at all. The lettuce, on the other hand was producing about a gallon bag a week and that is just from one little envelope of lettuce seeds. So now to the tomatoes.....

I put some in this hanging basket along with some bell pepper seeds.  The peppers will need to be transplanted but this is a nice "crib" for them until they move.

Then some of the other plants were put over by the fence/gate along with a couple of larger plants that I bought from Walmart....    There are also some pepper seedlings there too but they may need to be moved.

                                                    see the little baby tomatoes....:-)

This is where the lettuce bed was.... See how the new greenery/foliage had taken over.

These are the two baby apple trees that Sarah planted from seed about a month before the left for PNG

The Back Yard is coming to LIFE!

May 18, 2012

What is that?......grass in the back yard.....I don't believe it!
Yep!!!!  very tender, baby grass.... thanks to
lots and lots of rain...and a good bit of seed

This bed was expanded so that something
could get a little light under all those trees.
I decided to go with just green, shade-loving plants
There are only three little impatiens in this bed over
by the bird bath. The pansies around it are just about done.
I may put Ajuga there.

This is on the other side of the swing.
I'm experimenting with impatiens there to see if
flowers can grow on that side.
The Ajuga is doing very well there and along the ivy fence.
A Robin family decided to try out the plum tree this year.
There is another nest in the big Dogwood on the side of the house again.
Punkin says "drool....."
